Pilates strengthens the body through a combination of static and dynamic exercises.
Pilates is a fantastic exercise for your spine, and regular practise can strengthen your posture, improving your structural alignment. It strengthens your joints and muscles, and aids flexibility.
It encourages functional strength and endurance which can be applied in your day to day life.
Pilates also increases your stamina, unlike traditional weight training, stamina is built up gently in Pilates. Increased stamina equals increased energy levels.
Our Pilates instructor Frances Adcock started Pilates over a decade ago whilst training as an athlete at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
In the early 2000’s Frances competed for Australia at more than 15 international swim meets, including the Athens Olympics where she made the semi finals in the 200 backstroke.
After retirement from elite sport, she used Pilates to keep fit and recover following multiple operations including a knee and shoulder reconstruction, sustained after years of intense swimming, netball, running and dance.
It was after this time she started to uncovered the deeper benefits of Pilates for injury recovery, prevention and body alignment and decided to complete her instructor teaching qualifications.
Frances believes Pilates is one of the best exercises for improving your posture because it works on strengthening your core, it also prevents injuries by toning all the weaker muscles in the body and because of its low impact it is beneficial to just about anyone.
She is a qualified mat-work and pregnancy Pilates instructor.
